Nickel Foam
Nickel foam is a type of open cell foam made up of nickel particles. This foam has a high strength to weight ratio, making it ideal for a variety of applications, including catalytic converters, gaskets, filters, and heat exchangers. It is also highly resistant to corrosion, heat, and electricity.

Nickel Foam
Nickel Foam is low-density permeable material with numerous applications. The defining characteristic of these foams is very high porosity, typically 75-95% of the volume consisting of void spaces. Nickel foam is often used for thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, adsorption of environmental pollutants, filtration of molten metal alloys, and as a substrate for catalysts requiring large internal surface area.
- Pore characteristics and bulk density
- Pore size: 20PPI-110PPI
- Area density: 350g/m2
- Main features: 1. Ultra-lightweight with a specific surface area with a specific gravity of 0.2~0.3, which is 1/4 of water, 1/3 of wood, 1/10 of metal aluminum, 1/30 of iron, and super quality light.
- In the field of electrochemistry, it is applied to nickel-metal hydride, nickel-cadmium, fuel cell, and other foamed nickel positive and negative electrodes, which doubles the performance of the battery. The foamed nickel-carbon composite electrode material is an ideal material for lithium batteries.
Due to its excellent permeability, Nickel foam is widely used in the filtration industry, especially in industrial filtration, and can be made into many kinds of filters. The principle is that the pores of foam metal materials have the function of stopping and trapping solid particles contained in the fluid, filtering and separating gas or liquid, and then purifying or separating the medium. Foam metal filters can filter solid particles and other substances from liquid (such as petroleum, gasoline, refrigerant, polymer melt and suspension, etc.), or air and other airflow media. Commonly, the properties of filter elements are tubular, plate-like, flaky, plate-shaped and cup-shaped.
The nickel foam from sintering in NH3 decomposition atmosphere at 850°C will achieve the same specific surface area as that at 980°C, whether this porous structure after electrodeposition comes through direct sintering in NH3 decomposition atmosphere, or through burning in air at 600°C for 4 min beforehand then the same reductive sintering.
